Festivals and Sabbath Observance

There are several Jewish festivals, as well as the weekly Sabbath (Shabbat), which Jewish medical students, doctors, and other healthcare professionals may wish to observe. These may also be observed by Jewish patients and their families.

One of the traditional roles of Jewish representative bodies and Jewish professional groups has always been to inform the wider community about the Jewish festivals and Sabbath. This helps to prevent avoidable clashes such as difficulties in arranging, for example, work schedules, rotas, timetables, training courses, interviews and examinations.

An example of this is the letter sent annually to all UK medical schools which can be accessed here which includes the relevant dates for the year 2022-3.

Dates for 2024-25 can be found here.
