Medicine in the uk

There are several Jewish festivals, as well as the weekly Sabbath (shabat), which Jewish medical students, doctors, and other healthcare professionals may wish to observe. These may also be observed by Jewish patients and their families.

One of the traditional roles of Jewish representative bodies, such as the Board of Deputies of British Jews, and of UK Jewish professional groups has been to inform the wider community about the Jewish festivals. This helps to prevent avoidable clashes such as difficulties in arranging, for example, work schedules, rotas. timetables, training courses, interviews and examinations.

In order to convey information about this clearly the Board of Deputies has prepared a useful “guide to the Jewish calendar” summary, which is accessible here.
