The Jewish Medical Association (UK) combines several previous Jewish Medical groups in the UK, including the former British Chapter of the Israel Medical Association and the London Jewish Medical Society.

The Jewish Medical Association (UK)’s mission statement summarises our charitable aims:

Supporting the UK’s Jewish medical professionals and informing on Jewish and Israeli medical approaches and achievements.

Charitable Aims

The aims of the Jewish Medical Association (UK) as approved by the Charity Commission are as follows:

1. To advance the education of the public by promoting and encouraging:

a)Academic, clinical, professional and social links between Jewish doctors, dentists, and associated health care professionals, and biomedical scientists, in the UK.

b)Academic, clinical, professional and social links between the UK and Israel in the field of medicine and health care.

c)Academic, clinical, professional and social links between Jewish doctors, dentists and associated health care professionals and biomedical scientists in the UK and those working elsewhere in the world.

d)Joint activities of UK Jewish medical, dental and health care professional, and biomedical science students.

e)Acting as the link association between UK Jewish doctors, dentists, and associated health care professionals, and the Israel Medical Association

2. To provide advice, help and support to other Jewish care charitable organisations wherever appropriate.

3. To promote the welfare of Jewish doctors, dentists and associated health care professionals in the UK.

4. To donate funds and scholarships in pursuance of the above aims wherever appropriate.

5. To do any other such things beneficial to the community that is charitable in law as the Trustees may from time to time decide.

Membership

The membership of the Jewish Medical Association (UK) is defined in the Constitution as follows:

Membership of the Association is open to all members of the medical profession, health care professionals, to biomedical scientists working in the field of medicine and health care, and (at the discretion of the Council) to others who are involved in this area of activity and are making a useful contribution.

Membership shall be subject to confirmation by a majority decision of the Council of the Association.

Members shall be required to pay an annual subscription to the Association, the value of which shall be set from time to time by the Council.

A member shall be defined as one who has paid the annual subscription not later than fourteen days prior to the Annual General Meeting.

Members shall be entitled to receive all publications of the Association, to attend all meetings, and to vote and hold office in connection with any business of the Association.

Honorary Membership

The honorary membership of the Jewish Medical Association (UK) is defined in the Constitution as follows:

Honorary members may be elected at the discretion of the Council of the Association, and shall have the same rights as members, except that they should not be entitled to vote at the Annual General Meeting, and that they should not be eligible for election to the Council.

Honorary Life Membership

The honorary life membership of the Jewish Medical Association (UK) is defined in the Constitution as follows:

Honorary life members of the Association may be elected at the discretion of the Council. They shall be distinguished in their professional activities and / or have rendered distinguished service to the Association. They shall have the same rights as members of the Association and shall be exempt from the annual subscription, should they so wish.

Student Membership

The student membership of the Jewish Medical Association (UK) is defined in the Constitution as follows:

Student membership of the Association is open to UK Jewish medical, dental, health care professional, and biomedical science students, subject to confirmation by the Council.

Student membership of the Association is free.
