Health service crisis in Lebanon: Hezbollah is the problem
The Association’s patron, Lord Turnberg, together with Joel Zivot and Adam Cutler, wrote to the Lancet commenting on an article from the World Health Organisation (WHO) claiming that Israel had targeted healthcare facilities in Lebanon. In the original article no mention was made that missiles appeared to have been launched from these facilities and that 60,000 Israeli refugees had to leave their homes in the north of Israel because of the attacks. They comment that Hezbollah has been responsible for the economic and healthcare collapse in Lebanon. Their letter can be accessed here.
Influencing and supporting religious identity in the NHS
NHS Employers have launched a new survey on faith and belief in the NHS.
This survey will be undertaken by Dr Ying-Fei Heliot (Organisational Research Department at the University of Surrey) who undertook an earlier related study which was reported to the Association and published in 2022.
During discussion with Dr Heliot at the time it was noted that regrettably there had been very Jewish respondents. But ~30% of Jewish NHS staff reported that they had experience discrimination against then in the workplace.
The new survey can be accessed here.
Both Dr Heliot, and NHS Employers have asked the Association to make sure that we have a useful and constructive response from the medical community in 2025.
